Their mission is to serve others by helping to instill values of

in young people and in other ways to prepare them to make excellent
choices throughout their lives to fulfill their unique purpose.
Learning for Life is an educational program designed to meet the
needs of youth and schools. It helps youth meet the challenge of
growing up by teaching character and good decision-making skills
and then linking those skills to the real world. Developed by professional
educators and child-development experts, the Learning for Life curriculum
has three basic components: school-based learning, connecting activities,
and work-based learning. Combined, these components provide a structure
through which youth learn the value of respect and responsibility
while discovering aworld of career opportunities.

AmericasPromise.org
(888-559-6884)
Founded by Gen. Colin L. Powell An organization that believes
building character in young people is more important than giving
them glittery presents. The Alliance for youth has as mission
to make sure each child receives five special gifts or promises
that have been endorsed as keys to pointing America's youth in
the right direction. Gift #1- The presence of responsible caring
loving adults. When parents need help or are absent, its' up to
the rest of us to step in as mentors, tutors, foster parents or
role models. Big Brother or Big Sisters of America, The National
Mentoring Partnership and similar national programs are striving
to increase the number of caring adults wiling to help save a
child. Gift #2 Every child needs a safe place to learn and grow-
especially after school. There is a need for more in school and
faith-based programs and clubs for kids. Gift #3 Every child needs
and deserves a healthy start to a healthy future. Every child
needs good health care. Gift #4 Every child needs marketable skills
in today's competitive information-based economy. Business leaders
recognize that they won't have enough skilled workers tomorrow
unless they invest in young people now. The oracle Corp has launched
a $100 million initiative to provide computers and training for
budget strapped schools. Gift #5 Every child needs to give back.
We must encourage young people to serve the society that has given
to them. Learning to help others should be a part of everyone's
growing up. Community service is important and a willingness to
help is a virtue that will serve young people throughout their
lives.
